Documents Requirements

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores

The GRE is not required for DPT applicants.

Transcripts

Transcripts from each institution are required, including any graduate coursework or degrees completed.

Physical Therapy Observation Hours

Clinical experience in a physical therapy setting and under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist is not required, but applicants may be more competitive if they have this experience. This requirement can be completed in a volunteer or paid capacity.

Essays

The application will include two essays: the standard PTCAS essay and an 九色视频/OHSU personal statement.  Please make sure that you answer both essay questions.

Related Work/Volunteer Experience

Applicants will be required to list related work and volunteer experiences, via PTCAS, that they have had that are somehow related to physical therapy but not actually in physical therapy.  Some examples are listed below:

  • working as a caregiver
  • working as a medical scribe
  • coaching a youth sports team
  • working as a personal trainer
  • working at a retirement center

Additional Documents

Three Letters of Recommendation

Three confidential letters of recommendation from professionals attesting to the ability, scholarship, and aptitude of the candidate for a rigorous full-time DPT program.

  • At least one letter must be from a licensed physical therapist with whom the applicant had a professional association and can thereby appropriately evaluate the applicant鈥檚 potential as a student in the physical therapy program.
  • One letter must be from a professor for a course which the applicant completed.
  • The third letter of recommendation can be from a licensed physical therapist, academic instructor for a course which the applicant completed, or an individual that the applicant worked, volunteered, served or participated with in a professional environment or setting. Letters from family or friends will not meet this requirement.

Program Disclosure Form

Once your PTCAS application is submitted, verified, and received by 九色视频/OHSU, applicants will be sent an email notification from 九色视频/OHSU asking you to review and sign the Program Disclosure form.

Technical Standards Form

Dr. Marybeth Grant-Beuttler is a full, tenured professor and the program director for the 九色视频/Oregon Health Sciences University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. She has been teaching in entry-level physical therapy programs since September 1998 and a core faculty member at 九色视频 since 2022. As a practicing physical therapist, Dr. Grant-Beuttler has been a Certified Pediatric Specialist since 2006. She has worked in most areas of pediatric practice, including, a large children鈥檚 hospital as an acute care clinician, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and acute pediatric wound care, a school district, early intervention, acute pediatric rehabilitation, and pediatric outpatient center. Dr. Grant-Beuttler advocates for experiential learning in her courses and has a long history running integrated clinical experiences including:
鈥 Shapes- a middle school PE class for children who met the criteria for and self-identified as Overweight or obese,
鈥 Balanced Families- a weekly dance class for children with neurological movement disorders and a concurrent support group for their families,
鈥 Toe Walking group- a weekly activity program for children who toe walk,
鈥 Social Gaming Club- With a local clinic, Tater Tots, Dr. Kayla Taylor and Dr. Grant-Beuttler, coordinate an ICE
鈥 Mini-Kickers- a YMCA supported community group focused on teaching 2鈥4-year-olds to play soccer.
Her research focuses on promoting the development of gait and postural control in standing and function with children. She works to develop technology systems that supports rehearsal of motor skills in the natural environment.
Beyond the university and clinic, Dr. Grant-Beuttler shows and races Scottish Deerhounds and Silken Windhounds and loves to run, climb, and kayak.

Dr. Grant-Beuttler has been the recipient of:
鈥 the California Physical Therapy Associations Faculty Research Award in October 2016,
鈥 the Unit Faculty Excellence Award from Chapman University in recognition of excellence in teaching, creative/scholarly, and service in April 2018,
鈥 the Valerie Scudder Award from Chapman University in recognition of outstanding achievement in teaching and research/creative work in May 2018,
鈥 the Dissertation Award from the Pediatric Section of the American Physical Therapy Association in February 2006.

Research interests:
The focus of Dr. Grant-Beuttler鈥檚 translational research is the development of technology to provide effective feedback to improve motor learning on the development of posture and gait, specifically toe walking. Along with her Bioengineering partner, Dr. Grant-Beuttler is the inventor of the Smart System technology to provide clinical tracking and intervention for children who toe walk.
